I get frustrated with tools sometimes

By nature, I'm a very tools-oriented person. I can get pretty excited to use a great tool, especially something that fits my way of thinking.

At the same time, when I can't get a tool to work the way I want, I can get pretty frustrated and more than a little obsessed with trying to make it do just what I want.

Often, this can come at the expense of what I'm actually trying to do with the tool.

Of course, having the right tool for the job is important, but there are a ton of tools out there. You need to find a balance between getting to your goal vs finding the perfect tool. This is of course context specific. It can be a personal choice, or for an organization it can be about finding the tools that best match the culture and principles of the team.

In the end, though, there may be a wide variety of tools, but there are relatively few things of importance we need to actually work on and that is where our focus should be.
